A rope pump training course wan conducted in Woliso
(Oromiya Region) inviting 16 artizans from 5 different towns in Oromiya
Resion. The place for the training was Woliso Technical Vocational
College. The training was given for 4 weeks by Dutch Engineers from PRACTICA
Foundation and a local
consultant as usual. In this training, there were 7 particiapants
from the government organizations such as Zonal and Woreda office
and Water Bureau in addition to 9 participants from local private
workshops. Although there is a little possiblity for the governmental
officers to continue producing rope pumps by themselves, they are
expected to support installation of the rope pumps in the later stage
of this activity.
Deputy Bureau head and Head of Stydy and Design Department from the Oromiya
Water Bureau attended in the closing ceremony and they are very impressed with
the technology of rope pump.
The Rope Pump Manufacturing Course was carried out at Bahir Dar in Amhara Region. 17 trainees mainly from private metal workshops joined the course from 8 zones of Amhara region. The course was held at Bahir Dar Construction and Technology College. A rope pump expert was invited from Dutch NGO Practica Foundation and giving the training together with a local expert. Participants' motivation on the rope pump was very high and also their manufacturing skill was high enough. EWTEC will continue follow-up for their further activities through a strict quality check.
The technology of goundwater recharge has been introduced in other countries as a effective method to manage groundwater although there are few experience in Ethiopia. This survery was conducted to investigate the posibility to recharge the groundwater and/or construct a facility for grondwater recharge in Burajira-Zuway area from a social and geological point of view. A Dutch engineer Dr. Frank van Steenbergen from MetaMeta Research was invited for the survey.

Well Diagnosys/Well Rehabilitation Course has started inviting a JICA Expert Mr. Suzumura (Japan Techno Co., Ltd.). There are 8 trainees in total from Oromiya, Amhara and SNNP regions. The course includes observation of wells which have some troubles by using a borehole camera.
*See the course guide (PDF/9KB)
Due to the disorde of the borehole camera, locally made borehole camera with an ordinally digital camera was introduced. In addition, manufacrure of tools for well rehabilitation such as burush, swabbing and packer with locally available material was introduced to the participants. The trainer was a JICA expert Mr. Suzumura (Jpan Techno Co., Ltd.).
